By Olivier Morgue, 1964, Airborne.
The Djinn chair was designed in 1964–1965 by French designer Olivier Mourgue for the French manufacturer Airborne International. The chair belongs to the wave of experimental space-age furniture emerging in the mid-1960s, when designers began abandoning traditional legs and rigid forms in favor of low, fluid seating built from tubular steel frames covered with molded foam and stretch jersey upholstery. Mourgue’s Djinn series included a lounge chair, chaise longue, sofa, and ottoman, all characterized by their continuous S-curve profile that sat unusually close to the floor. The design gained international recognition when it appeared prominently in 2001: A Space Odyssey directed by Stanley Kubrick, where bright red Djinn chairs furnished the space station lounge.
Wool velvet upholstery, pristine condition.
